An exhibition of work by Mike and Leslie Nichols will open this Friday, 2/18 (5:30 - 8) in the VAC Gallery and run through March 17.
Mike Nichols writes of his work, "My recent image making investigates paradoxical issues of time and space, such as superposition. Many of my drawings and paintings depict objects seen from multiple
vantage points. Other works attempt to examine the pictorial possibility of multiple objects/bodies simultaneously occupying a single space. These images are my creative interpretations of otherwise impracticable things. Ultimately, they represent queries about the nature and limits of perception, and consciousness"
Leslie Nichols writes, "My current work reflects my independent research in women’s studies, specifically early feminist theorists and activists. The works presented in this exhibition are my visual responses to American women’s history. In making these works, I have interacted with a broad and diverse history of theory and action aimed towards re-visioning the conditions of our lives. Some pieces
are reflections on specific issues or ideas relevant to the roots of feminism in America. Other works incorporate excerpts from historical and cultural texts that form interdependent relationships with the imagery"
